"I admit I fell in love with Kim ... 'Round the same time she fell in love with him ... That's cool, babygirl, do your thing ... Lucky I ain't had Jay drop him from the team." - Kanye West
This week I got a lot of emails, so there were a few standouts. One of them comes from Vancouver based hip-hop artists Boombox Saints. They have been making some noise in the scene over on the west side of Canada. The Saints even opened up for Mr. Kid Cudder earlier this year. I got there single from their latest EP Bringin' The Boom Back: Based On A True Story. It's got a real old school vibe. Check it out, ya dig?
It's been a while and I have a lot of dope tracks that I wanted to share but it was too much for one post. So instead I've decided to split them up into two. Recently I've been listening to a lot of hip hop and rnb. So this post will cover those genres and the next will be everything else grouped together.
First up we have one of my favs., hometown hero Drizzy Drake. Off of his mixtape Young Sweet Jones 2, track number 16: Greatness. His smooth flow compliments an even smoother beat. Id like to see Jay go off on this one.
Next we have something off of Mar Variations. Netherlands vocalist Mar is apparently releasing a different variation of a popular song every month on his website marvariations.net. The one that caught my attention is his take on Lil Wayne's Single. Check it out and let it take over your speakers and genitals.
N.E.R.D. has a new song! That's good. But someone other than them produced it. That's bad. It was Daft Punk that produced it! That's good. But the song comes with a curse! That's bad. But it comes with a free frogurt! That's good. The frogurt is also cursed. That's bad. But you get your choice of toppings. That's good! The toppings contain potassium benzoate...That's bad. Anyways now that I've made my simpsons halloween reference. Here is the damn track.
Kid Cudderrrrrrrr. Switchin' up the flow and goin a little faster here really works well with this beat. It just clicks. Hope he does more like dis one hyere! (last sentence to be spoken in tone of Leo Dicaprio's fakie south african accent from Blood Diamond).
You ready for some west coast gangsta shit?! Game feat. Dre and Busta. When I heard the track I instantly liked it and you will too...if not, game will come to your home and murder you.
50!!!!!! Man I love this guy. He's so easy to hate, its part of why I like him. Get Rich or Die Tryin' is the main reason why I love the guy though. That album got worrrrnn out on my cd player. Thats right, cd player. Bumped the shit out of that album. Anyways here is a new track from mah dood that im feelin'
Ya know I couldn't go long without posting a mash-up. Hood Internet back at it again with a smooth mixdown of Andre 3000 and John Legend vs Local Natives. Seriously does Hood Internet ever not deliver?
Nicki motherfuckin' Minaj. Either you love her or hate her. Either way shes here and slaying some serious rappers on their own tracks. Here is one of hers:
There are so many bloody remixes on the web of this guys catalogue its hard to know where to start. Everybody and their mother has remixed a hov' song, so it can be overwhelming deciding which ones to check out. This list is meant as a starting point and will hopefully let you see some of his classics in a new light.
The first remix I have is off of Dj. Lt. Dans The Black Remixes: Back to the Basics. Unfortunately I can no longer find where to download this, but if you know where to get it throw it on the comments. The song Allure, originally produced by Neptunes was given the Carlitos Way treatment. Meant to evoke the same emotions and imagery as the movie did. What Lt. Dan does is completely strip it of the Neptunes touch and creates a classic cruising song. With smooth horn samples, this jazzy number will be bumping on your playlists in no time.
Next we have a track off of Mick Boogie Presents: Brooklyn Soul. Produced by Shuko and The Gunna, this album is a blend/mash-up/remix of Marvin Gaye songs and the album American Gangster from Jay-Z. You mightve caught this track before, it was blazing up hype machine not too long ago. Be sure to pick up this album for free from here.
Even TheHoodInternet isnt safe from the Jay-Z wave. Last February DJ STV SLV took Pheonix and Hova and introduced us to chill-wave Jay'. Watch out for "bring them horns back". The saxaphone in this song is perfect.
"And the Definitive Winner Is..." (Jay-Z vs. Phoenix) - DJ STV SLV (The Hood Internet)
Here is a project thats just surfaced (its not even out till Friday). The Big Band Blueprint is the name of the album being produced by Ritchcraft. There has been a few leaks so far and there is some great shit going on here people. Its definitely an interesting take on Jay, one I am looking forward too.
Lastly and probably the most important we have Danger Mouse's The Grey Album. A blend of The Black Album acapellas from Jay-Z and a shit-tonne of samples from The Beatles White Album. Released in 2004 this was historically an important album. Before music blogs were popular and internet music was at its height, there was a lot of controversy surrounding this because Danger Mouse had used unauthorized Beatles samples and EMI attempted to cease distribution of this album. However this backfired on them causing massive publicity for the album and a closer look at how sampling works. Oh and there was also Grey Tuesday. I could go into more detail and explain it (poorly). Or you could realize its 2010 and just go here. By the way, did I mention the album is fucking incredible?
"What More Can I Say" (Jay-Z vs. The Beatles) - Danger Mouse
There it is, a good starting point to Jay-Z remixes on the internet today. Im going to leave you with 2 tracks that feature Jay-Z that I think people might have slept on. Fuck it they are just really catchy tunes.
"Go Crazy" (Remix) - Young Jeezy feat. Jay-Z and Fat Joe
Hmmm, what can be said about Mr. Theophilus London? Well probably that he is the next big name to watch out for. The kid sets it down proper with his single "Humdrum Town", served up with a personality that is energetic as the beat, probably one of my favorite tracks right now. If your feeling this then check out his new mixtape titled "This Charming Man"
