Imogen Heap

Remember that time on the O.C. when that dude got shot and that song played and everything went slo-mo? Neither do I... Well we cant fault the O.C. for their music selection because it was on point. The song they used in that particular scene was "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap; one of the most talented artists out their today.
This woman does it all, writes her own stuff, produces, sings and mixes it. I originally found out about her while she was in Frou Frou, making Garden States soundtrack sound oh so nice. So as promised on Facebook here is some choice selections of her work. Enjoy.

So here is the track that introduced me to her. It was featured on the Garden State soundtrack.

"Let Go" - Frou Frou

Next is the track that pretty much skyrocketed her to the level that she is at now. All thanks to some brooding rich teens who live in Orange County.

Now that we have gotten those two essentials out of the way, we can now start with the remixes.

First up we have TapeDeckBros remix of Hide and Seek. TapeDeckBros, native to my own home Toronto, represent and bring the heat with this simple yet effective remix.

"Hide and Seek" (Fuk Tha OC Remix) - TapeDeckBros

Next on the remix list we have High Contrasts remix of "Headlock". I only recently came across this Drum N Bass version, but its definitely one of the best remixes of her songs that I have heard.

Finally we have a dubstep remix from Mt. Eden. Putting that dirty sub sound on hide and seek. Time to get faded and listen to dub.

There is also the the 2-1 dubstep remix by Murdok that we posted earlier on this site which is mos def worth checking out if you havent. It was what sparked this whole post. Check it out here.

Jay-Z: The Remixes

There are so many bloody remixes on the web of this guys catalogue its hard to know where to start. Everybody and their mother has remixed a hov' song, so it can be overwhelming deciding which ones to check out. This list is meant as a starting point and will hopefully let you see some of his classics in a new light.

The first remix I have is off of Dj. Lt. Dans The Black Remixes: Back to the Basics. Unfortunately I can no longer find where to download this, but if you know where to get it throw it on the comments. The song Allure, originally produced by Neptunes was given the Carlitos Way treatment. Meant to evoke the same emotions and imagery as the movie did. What Lt. Dan does is completely strip it of the Neptunes touch and creates a classic cruising song. With smooth horn samples, this jazzy number will be bumping on your playlists in no time.

Next we have a track off of Mick Boogie Presents: Brooklyn Soul. Produced by Shuko and The Gunna, this album is a blend/mash-up/remix of Marvin Gaye songs and the album American Gangster from Jay-Z. You mightve caught this track before, it was blazing up hype machine not too long ago. Be sure to pick up this album for free from here.

Jay Z Ft Marvin Gaye - Hello Brooklyn (Chillout Mix) Dj Mick Boogie by Mixes and Mashups #4

Even TheHoodInternet isnt safe from the Jay-Z wave. Last February DJ STV SLV took Pheonix and Hova and introduced us to chill-wave Jay'. Watch out for "bring them horns back". The saxaphone in this song is perfect.

Here is a project thats just surfaced (its not even out till Friday). The Big Band Blueprint is the name of the album being produced by Ritchcraft. There has been a few leaks so far and there is some great shit going on here people. Its definitely an interesting take on Jay, one I am looking forward too.

Lastly and probably the most important we have Danger Mouse's The Grey Album. A blend of The Black Album acapellas from Jay-Z and a shit-tonne of samples from The Beatles White Album. Released in 2004 this was historically an important album. Before music blogs were popular and internet music was at its height, there was a lot of controversy surrounding this because Danger Mouse had used unauthorized Beatles samples and EMI attempted to cease distribution of this album. However this backfired on them causing massive publicity for the album and a closer look at how sampling works. Oh and there was also Grey Tuesday. I could go into more detail and explain it (poorly). Or you could realize its 2010 and just go here. By the way, did I mention the album is fucking incredible?

"What More Can I Say" (Jay-Z vs. The Beatles) - Danger Mouse

There it is, a good starting point to Jay-Z remixes on the internet today. Im going to leave you with 2 tracks that feature Jay-Z that I think people might have slept on. Fuck it they are just really catchy tunes.

"Deprock" (Young Money vs.Javelin) - ABX (The Hood Internet)

First off let me say that I am still a fan of mash-ups. Is it me or have they gotten a bad wrap lately? Tell someone to check out a mash-up and they get all pretentious on your ass, and tell you that they are over and done with that style. Well fuck you because thehoodinternet is still doing it, and going haaaaard. These guys get it. They have the gift of taking a song (that you might even hate) and completely changing how you feel about it. Take for example the song I am about to post, you've all heard it, there was no escaping this song. I am interested to hear what you thought of it before and after hearing this mash-up. In any case, here it is. Enjoy :)

"Talamak" - Toro Y Moi

Relax, sit back and take notes as I take tokes of the tokyo smoke.

Picture this: Its 4 am and you've just gotten back from a heavy night of partying after a long week of work/school. There are 2 things that are a must.
1) Late night take-out and
2) some music to end the night with.

Now its time to get hella faded. Next you try to decide which music will be best to bring you back down after consuming an almost lethal amount of redbull and beer. Well my friends the solution is here. Check out Toro Y Moi. I know I will be, Saturday night at Wrongbar. See you there?

Here We Go Now - Zuper Blahq

For those of you who aren't aware of who Zuper Blahq is and what hes about I want you to hold out and check out his work first, this guy throws out some sick tunes. You should also check out the song with him and Steve Aoki, better yet just check the video, you wont be disappointed. I just hope he continues what hes doing because its hot.

The Motion - Duck Sauce

Duck Sauce has been featured on Dirty Physics before, and for good reason, they're Awesome. What a collaboration. Duck Sauce delivers on what I don't get enough of, they take wicked riff's and beats from the 70's and 80's and give us a wicked updated chill electro sound. The Motion is no exception, if your ever hosting a chill night with some friends or a lady or guy friend put this joint on and let the fun begin. I also want to give a shout out to dailybeatz who are hosting the song.

BOCCE

Waterloos very own Bocce has released their newest album Disambiguation and made the entire album free for you to download. Check out their myspace here. Bocce is most recognizable for their high energy live performances, seeming to play every show as it was their last. With Disambiguation marking the bands first release in 2 years, it does not disappoint. The album has 9 tracks, each of them offering a different listening experience. Its hard to describe their sound as it is pretty unique and with each track offering something different. However if you follow this blog and if you are into trying something new and showing off with your ipod playlists, than this is definitely something you are going to want to pick up. They are one of the top untapped resources in Canadian music today IMO. I highly recommend checking out one of their live shows to get the full Bocce experience.
